Military Veterans Resource Center (MVRC) is partnering with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) to offer free income tax filing assistance to military veterans and their spouses.
Veterans and their spouses will need to bring a valid photo ID, their DD-214 (or other evidence of military service), and their income tax records. Social Security cards are required for all dependents, including children. The new IRS identification requirements is to help keep identity theft at a minimum. A pre-appointment information form is required to be filled out and brought to the filing appointment. Those who do not bring the necessary documentation will not be able to file.
Please bring the following to your appointment:
- A copy of the veteran’s DD214
- Photo IDs for veteran and spouse
- Social Security cards for veteran, spouse and children (ITIN letters also accepted)
- W2 forms (all copies) for each wage earner
- Form 1099 if you were a independent contractor in 2018
- Forms 1098 (scholarships) and 1095 if applicable
- Proof of residency (utility bills, mortgage bill or property tax bill)
- Health Savings Account documentation (if applicable)
- Interest and or dividend documentation
- Social Security Disability documentation
- Proof of unemployment compensation (if applicable)
- If the veteran is service-connected, please bring your VA Award Letter
- If you got married in 2019, please bring your Marriage License
- Proof of Alimony payments
- Documentation of payments from annuities, pensions or an IRA
- Checking/savings account number (if checking, also need routing number)
- Proof of income from rental property (if applicable)
- Proof of income from sale of your house, other real estate, stocks or bonds
