MVRC announces walk-in tax days for 2017 season

Military Veterans Resource Center (MVRC) is partnering with the Ohio Benefit Bank to once again offer free income tax filing assistance to veterans, military service members, and spouses who meet certain income requirements.

MVRC has special walk-in Tax Days at each of our locations in which no appointment is necessary. Dates scheduled so far are:

  • Thursday, March 30 at our Dayton center
  • Saturday, April 1 in Hamilton, Ohio
  • Thursday, April 6 at our Dayton center
  • Tuesday, April 11 at our Chillicothe center
  • Wednesday, April 12 at our Hamilton center
  • Friday, April 14 at our Columbus center
  • Monday, April 17 at our Dayton center
  • Tuesday, April 18 at our Columbus, Chillicothe and Hamilton centers

Those requirements are veterans and spouses filing jointly must have an adjusted gross income of $95,000 or less and everyone else must have an adjusted gross income of $65,000 or less.

The free tax filing service is available until April 18 at all four locations. Veterans can either file in person with a certified tax counselor, or they can file online at milvetsrc.org/taxes.

We are also offering free assistance with home utility payments through the Home Energy Assistance Program or HEAP.

For more information, contact your nearest MVRC office:

Columbus: Dixie Bishop, 614-636-4634 or dixie.bishop@milvetsrc.org
Chillicothe: Brandon Taylor, 740-835-5145 or brandon.taylor@milvetsrc.org
Dayton: Kelley Koons, 937-329-9559 or kelley.koons@milvetsrc.org
Hamilton: Dan Dunaway, 513-252-2395 or dan.dunaway@milvetsrc.org

Those who do not bring the necessary documentation will not be able to file. Veterans will need to bring a photo ID, their DD-214 (or other evidence of military service), and their income tax records. A full list of required documents is available at milvetsrc.org/taxes.

The Ohio Benefit Bank is a program of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks. Through this program, MVRC can also help veterans apply for education benefits and health coverage, and help their families access food, healthcare, childcare and home energy assistance.
