Last week, Military Veterans Resource Center officially joined the Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s partner network of food banks, which includes over 650 agencies located in 20 central and eastern Ohio counties. Each year, the Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s partner agencies collectively distribute over 40 million pounds of food to people in need, which is the equivalent of over 121,000 meals provided per day.

As a partner agency, MVRC’s food bank is recognized as meeting the Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s standards for food pantries. In addition, the Mid-Ohio Foodbank will supply food at a reduced cost to MVRC for distribution to clients, which will allow us to provide more food to veterans in need.

“We’ve seen a steady increase in the number of people coming in for food assistance,” said Arnold Heightland, MVRC’s Food Bank Manager. “By partnering with the Mid-Ohio Foodbank we will better serve and serve more vets.”

MVRC’s food bank was approved by the Mid-Ohio Foodbank in October, but the partnership became official on Monday, Dec. 1 after Tammy Tucker, Programs and Services Specialist at the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, conducted an orientation training for MVRC staff members. The staff received diversity and food safety training. They were also updated on operational best practices and elibility requirements.

“Our mission is to provide personalized services to vets in need, and in many cases that means providing meals to a veteran’s family if he or she is in-between jobs,” said MVRC Executive Director Len Proper. “We realized the Mid-Ohio Foodbank would help us become a more effective resource for our clients and we’re grateful for the opportunity to form a partnership.”

Veterans in need of emergency food assistance can contact Military Veterans Resource Center and receive a 3 day supply of food. Eligible veterans must have served honorably and must present proof of service. Please call us at 614-230-0662, or visit our office between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. We are located at 1395 E. Dublin-Granville Rd, Ste. 350, Columbus, OH.

The Mid-Ohio Foodbank is a non-profit organization that sources and collects food and grocery products and distributes those items to local food pantries. The Mid-Ohio Foodbank also runs a variety of hunger assistance and community education programs. For more information about the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, visit their website: http://www.midohiofoodbank.org/
