Columbus,  Ohio (March 7, 2014) -- On Friday, March 21, the Military Veterans Resource Center (MVRC) will host the Veterans Career Assistance Program (VCAP) to help veterans jumpstart their post-service careers. This personalized, intensive workshop will help veterans realize their skills, career goals, and employment opportunities in the civilian job market. The program will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the MVRC Columbus headquarters.

A group of MVRC Career Specialists will lead a series of workshops covering the essential tools veterans need in their job search, such as how to craft a relevant and marketable resume, as well as how to write a cover letter that reinforces their skill sets. The attendees will also learn how to present themselves in a professional setting, and will participate in mock interviews. In addition, representatives from Chase bank will be giving a basic and budgeting session beginning at 9 a.m.

The MVRC also hopes the training will get the veterans excited about their job search. In previous VCAPs, guest speakers and potential employers have attended the programs and have talked with veterans about their opportunities.

"We'll be giving them resume and interview techniques and help them learn what an employer is looking for," said Tanisha Calhoun, one of the Career Specialists in charge of the VCAP. "They need to bring their resume if they have one -- if not, we help them build one on the spot. They also need to dress for an interview as there may be an employer joining us to conduct the mock interview sessions."

Veterans interested in attending the Veterans Career Assistance Program must pre-register by Monday, March 17. Call 614-230-0662.
