Vietnam vet receives new water heater thanks to MVRC grant Posted January 4, 2017

Why is it that as soon as you feel that first cold bite of winter, major appliances tend to break down? A local Vietnam veteran experienced just that when one of the heating elements in his water heater went bad in the beginning of December. Howard and Laura Heimlich were blessed with hot water once again courtesy of a grant MVRC obtained from Home Depot. What’s even better is his step-grandson and MVRC counselor, Ryan…

Despite the cold misty air floating over gravestones of various sizes half-hidden by snow, more than 50 volunteers showed up to Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens on a recent Saturday to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Military Veterans Resource Center helps veterans apply for HEAP Posted December 14, 2016

The Military Veterans Resource Center can help low-income veterans apply for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). HEAP helps pay the high costs of home heating. If you are eligible for assistance, the amount of your one-time HEAP benefit will depend on federal funding levels, how many people live with you, total household income and the primary fuel you use to heat your home. In most cases, the benefit will be a credit applied to…

Dan Dunaway, our veterans services specialist at our Hamilton location, is ushering in the holiday spirit with his “giving tree” he has set up near the entrance to the center. Several families filled out wish lists and Dunaway’s “elves” are now busy fulfilling those wishes. A festive tablecloth, holiday candy and fresh cookies are also there to greet veterans who come through the door. The place feels a little more like home and puts people…
