For years veterans have come to Military Veterans Resource Center for help developing professional resumes, obtaining licenses for their skills, and job placement services. But did you know we offer other forms of assistance besides employment services?
Since 2014, our centers in Columbus, Chillicothe, Dayton and Hamilton have been providing supportive services to veterans and their families, including food, clothing, school supplies and personal care items. If you or a veteran you know is need of the following supportive services, contact your nearest MVRC location today. Or, call us toll free at 855-557-8387 and we’ll connect you to your local center.
1. Veterans Food Bank
No veteran should have to make the choice between purchasing food for the family and paying the bills. We are partnered with the Mid-Ohio Foodbank to provide nutritious meals to veterans and families in need of emergency food assistance. When a veteran comes to us for help, we’ll provide enough food for the vet and the members of his or her immediate household. Last year, we supplied over 20,000 meals to vets and their families, making our Veterans Food Bank the largest food bank for veterans in Ohio.
2. Professional Clothing
If you have an interview coming up but can’t afford a professional outfit, we can help. We have a variety of professional clothing options to choose from, including dress pants, dress shirts, suits, ties and shoes. If we don’t have a something in your size, we will help you obtain the items or refer you to one of our partner organizations, such as Goodwill. We can also provide personal care kits with items like soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.
3. Operation: Tools for School
We’re pleased to bring back our annual Operation: Tools for School program in 2016! While it’s hard to think about back-to-school shopping as this school year is ending, keep us in mind for later this summer. From August 1 until September 15, 2016 we will be providing school supplies to veterans, service members and their families. Contact your nearest MVRC location for information about participating in Tools for School.
